The World Economic Forum 2014 Risk Report
In their 2014 Report, World Economic Forum Founder Klaus Schwab says, "Conceptual models are needed to define, characterize and measure the potential negative impacts of risks....The report aims to enhance our understanding of how a comprehensive set of global risks is evolving, how their interaction can lead to unexpected and other systemic impacts, and the trade-offs in managing them". Contributing to the report are organizations such as Marsh, Swiss Re, Zurich Insurance Group, National University of Singapore, University of Oxford, and Wharton Risk Management and Decision Processes Center at the University of Pennsylvania.
CMS Announces Benefits Coordination & Recovery Center
On December 23, 2013, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced it is completing its restructuring of the Coordination of Benefits (COB) and Medicare Secondary Payer (MSP) recovery activities. Activities will be transitioned from the COB contractor and the Medicare Secondary Payer Recovery Contractor to the new Benefits Coordination and Recovery Center on February 1, 2014.
The Surgeon General Issues 2014 Report On Smoking
The report finds that active smoking is now causally associated with over 30 health conditions including age-related macular degeneration, diabetes, colorectal cancer, liver cancer, adverse health outcomes in cancer patients and survivors, tuberculosis, erectile dysfunction, orofacial clefts in infants, ectopic pregnancy rheumatoid arthritis, inflammation and impaired immune function. In addition, exposure to secondhand smoke has now been causally associated with an increased risk for stroke.
